They say a picture contains a thousand words; well this picture inspired some words out of me. Some days ago I uploaded a photo that attracted some attention. While I couldn’t explain the reality of it at the immediate time, thankfully, the photographer did.
Imagine, or in most cases, remember when you were having a meal or snack and your lovely four legged friend comes and sits next to you.
While most of the time you would love the company, now is just not good because you know what will come next: the eyes. Your dog is begging for food and he or she is doing those adorable eyes that are really hard to resist. While you want to give them all your food you know that the snack you are eating (a chocolate) is toxic for them. You try to explain to them, but obviously they don’t understand. Then you start thinking about how much you love chocolate and if they will love it too, but you know that chocolate will kill them. This is where carob kicks in.
Carob or ceratonina siliqua is a tropical pod that contains a sweet, edible pulp and inedible seeds. After drying, the pulp is roasted and ground into a powder that resembles cocoa powder, but does not have the same flavor and texture of chocolate. It is actually sweeter than chocolate. Some people say it taste better and others disagree. The fact is that it works great on dog treat, it isn´t toxic for dogs and it is also great for people with allergic reactions to chocolate. Now your bearded fiend can enjoy a nice carob donut with you.
